The Embassy of Japan, SJCC and JCCIZ held an event to celebrate the Swiss-Japanese Free Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement on 29 October 2009.

In the event, the promotion of Japanese food that benefits from import tariff reduction by the Agreement took place. It was held on the grand scale by almost 270 participants including H.E. Mr. Luzius Wasescha, Ambassador, Head of Swiss negotiating team in the WTO, and of Swiss-Japanese FTEPA, and Mr. H. Hollenstein, Government Councilor of Zurich.

Mr. Ichiro Komatsu, Ambassador of Japan, made a speech in which he mentioned a number of examples showing that various Japanese ingredients such as "miso"(typical Japanese condiment made of fermented soybeans) can be a good match with traditional Swiss cuisine, such as cheese fondue. His remarks evoked interests from many participants.

Cuisinier chef of the Japanese Ambassador's Residence also demonstrated miso dishes. Many of favorable comments were made to his impressive demonstration such as "Explanations on how to use miso are very easy to understand." and "Miso dishes are easy-to-do and very delicious. I would like to try to cook at home."
