This memorandum reinforces bilateral cooperation in various fields and structures the policy dialogue between Japan and Switzerland inaugurated a year ago by the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs. The scope of the memorandum includes a number of areas of cooperation from a global perspective such as democracy and law, reforming international institutions, promoting disarmament and non-proliferation and enhancing human security. The policy dialogue consists of a review of regional and multilateral issues, as well as developments in the bilateral relations and examines further areas of cooperation, in particular within multilateral fora.
The signature took place in the context of the excellent relations that Japan and Switzerland enjoy and which were highlighted last year by the entering into force of a free-trade and economic partnership agreement.
