Meeting between Mr Moriyama, Minister of MEXT, and Dr Hirayama, State Secretary of SERI, and Signing of MOC between MEXT and SERI

On 1st October 2023, Mr Masahito MORIYAMA, Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan met Dr Martina HIRAYAMA, State Secretary of Science, Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) of the Swiss Confederation on the occasion of her visit to Japan. Following the meeting, both signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) on Cooperation in Science, Technology and Innovation.
The MOC aims to encourage cooperation in research infrastructures and networks, human resources development, and innovation policy across all areas such as life sciences, energy, climate sustainability, AI, space, and advanced materials.
During their meeting, Minister Moriyama and State Secretary Hirayama exchanged views on expectations for further cooperation between the two countries following the opening of the Consulate of Switzerland in Osaka (Swissnex in Japan), the importance of international brain circulation and cooperation in strategic areas between the two countries.
