Opening Reception to celebrate the 160th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Japan and Switzerland

On 6 February 2024, Embassy of Japan in Switzerland hosted the opening reception to celebrate the 160th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Japan and Switzerland.
National Council President Mr Eric Nussbaumer, State Secretary for Education, Research and Innovation Dr Martina Hirayama, and many representatives from the government, business, academic and cultural areas from both countries as well as Japanese community and others with close ties to both countries were in attendance, bringing the number of attendees to around 120 people.
The ceremony was inaugurated with the National Anthems of Japan and Switzerland, played on the violin by Ms. Mako ASAHINA of the Bernese Symphony Orchestra, followed by speeches by Ambassador Fujiyama and National Council President Mr Nussbaumer.

The reception was also graced by the presence of Mr Keigo Tsunemoto and Mr Ayumu Seko, who both play in the Swiss Super League.
The guests from all over Switzerland enjoyed delicacies made from ingredients imported all the way from Japan for this special occasion, such as scallops of Hokkaido, yellowtail fish of Kurose, and Wagyu Beef.
In addition, Sake producers from Fukushima Prefecture served local Sake and beer. It was a good opportunity for the guests to know more about the safety, high quality, and tasted of Japanese food, including Japanese seafood products.
