2024/12/11

On Tuesday, December 10, a ceremony was held to present the Foreign Minister's Commendation to the Swiss Air Rescue Service (rega). The ceremony took place in the hangar of rega's headquarters in Zurich, with aircraft and helicopters used in rescue operations serving as the backdrop. The event was attended by Mr Michael Hobmeier, Chairman of rega, Mr Ernst Kohler, CEO of rega, and other senior executives of rega.
Ambassador Fujiyama expressed deep respect for rega's efforts since its establishment in 1952, recognizing its provision of aeromedical services and transportation not only within Switzerland but also on a global scale. He also conveyed his appreciation on receiving the commendation.
Furthermore, the ambassador highlighted that, since 2014 alone, a total of 82 Japanese nationals had been injured in the Alps and other challenging locations and received advanced medical and transportation services from rega. He expressed his gratitude for rega's cooperation with the Embassy's consular services and presented the commendation certificate to Mr Hobmeier.
Mr Hobmeier emphasized that the award from the Japanese government is a great honour for rega and recognises the commitment of our employees to providing swift, professional and reliable assistance to people in distress wherever in the world. The award is also a symbol of the deep friendship between Japan and Switzerland, and stated: "we look forward to continuing our collaboration with the Japanese Embassy and to making our contribution to an even stronger, friendlier connection between Japan and Switzerland".
