Japan’s Princess Akiko of Mikasa visited Zurich

From 30 May until 2 June Princess Akiko of Mikasa visited Zurich.
During her stay the Princess visited on the 31 May the Johann Jacobs Museum. In the early evening of the same day she also held a lecture with the title “Constructing the History of Japanese Art in the British Museum” at the University of Zurich on the occasion of a lecture series about Asian art. All the seats of the venue were taken and the audience listened very carefully and compassionately. Later in the evening the Princess attended a Diner organized by the Swiss-Japanese Society.
In the morning of the 1 June at the “Freies Gymnasium” and later in the evening at the art complex “LUMA Westbau Zurich” there have been hold two panel discussions with the Princess, both hosted by the Asia Society Switzerland. In conversation with the in Tokyo born fashion designer Kazu Huggler, they talked amongst many things also about her life, including her studies abroad in England, the daily life as a member of the imperial family, and about the relationship of Japanese art and the West. As expected all the seats have been taken and the audience was highly fascinated by the eloquent and humorous talk by the Princess continuing the talking further. Also in the evening the Princess attended a diner organized by the Asia Society Switzerland.
The visit to Switzerland of Princess Akiko this time was the first visit of a member of the imperial family since about three years, after the visit of the crown prince Naruhito in June 2014.
