About the JET Programme

The JET Programme offers young foreign university graduates to work at schools as Assistant Language Teacher (ALT), in local authorities offices (or related organisations) as Coordinator for International Relations (CIR), or as sports coach Sports Exchange Advisor (SEA) for one year (extension possible). Swiss applicants can in general apply to ALT and CIR positions. Please note however that positions might be not available each year.

Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) will be engaged in language instruction. ALTs are placed mainly in local boards of education or publicly run primary, junior high and senior high schools. There may be a very limited number of cases in which the participants are placed in private primary, junior high and senior high schools through the prefectural offices or designated city offices.
Main duties will be assistance the following points: classes taught by Japanese teachers, preparation of materials, language training of Japanese teachers, foreign language conversation training, foreign language speech contests and more.

Coordinator for International Relations (CIR) will be engaged in internationalisation activities. CIRs are placed in the offices of local authorities or related organisations.
Main duties will be: Assistance in projects related to international activities carried out by the Contracting Organisation. Such activities may include: editing, translating and compiling brochures into a foreign language; assisting in planning, designing and implementing international exchange programmes including international economic exchange programmes; assisting in hosting official guests from abroad and interpreting at events for overseas visitors or for local foreign community residents.

 

Call for Applications for 2020 - Open Positions for Swiss Applicants

In 2020 one position is available for Swiss applicants in the JET Programme:
Recruitment: 1 Coordinator for International Relations (CIR)
Contracting Organisation: Kashiba City (Nara Prefecture)
Placement: Civic Collaboration Department
Arrival in Japan and start of contract: September 13, 2020


(There is no Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) position available in 2020)

 

Application Process and Documents

Application Deadline: March 20, 2020
Interviews: April 16, 2020
The interviews will take place at the Japan Information and Cultural Center of the Embassy of Japan in Switzerland (Engestrasse 43, 3012 Bern). The date of the interviews will be announced in February on the website of the Embassy of Japan in Switzerland.
